As the Director of the Early Phase Clinical Trials Service at Yale Cancer Center, Dr. LoRusso is a nationally recognized expert in developing new cancer drugs through clinical trials.
She pioneered significant advances in medical oncology, drug development and early phase clinical trials for her work at Wayne State University’s Barbara Karmanos Cancer Institute as director of both the Phase I Clinical Trials Program and of the Eisenberg Center for Experimental Therapeutics. Since coming to Yale University in 2014, she has developed a robust early phase clinical trials program, allowing patients access to cutting edge novel therapeutic agents.
Dr. LoRusso joined the Boards of Scientific Counselors for the National Cancer Institute in 2015 and has served as a member of the Board of Directors and numerous scientific committees of the American Association for Cancer Research, the education and scientific committees of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and many peer-reviewed study sections and NCI committees. She has been a member of the Investigational Drug Steering Committee, CTEP, since its inception.
LoRusso earned the MSU Distinguished Alumni Award in 2014, an Honorary Degree Doctor of Science in 2015. She was honored as one of The National Organization of Italian American Women’s Three Wise Women in 2017, and the Luminary Award from the state of Connecticut in 2018.
