Biography

Philippa Musoke, MBChB, FAAP, PhD is a Professor Emeritus, Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, Makerere University, Kampala Uganda, and a Co-Principal Investigator (PI) for the Johns Hopkins University-Uganda Clinical Trials Unit, based at the Makerere University-Johns Hopkins University Clinical Research Site (MUJHU), Kampala. Over the last 29 years, Prof. Musoke has been involved in multiple perinatal HIV prevention clinical trials including the landmark HIVNET012 trial which informed WHO HIV prevention guidelines, leading to the implementation of prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) services globally. In addition, she has conducted various paediatric antiretroviral treatment trials including pharmacokinetic studies which informed WHO antiretroviral treatment guidelines for children. Her areas of research interest include PMTCT, paediatric HIV treatment, and childhood tuberculosis diagnostics and treatment. She chairs the national PMTCT and Paediatric ART technical advisory committees and serves as the international vice chair for the NIH DAIDS IMPAACT network.
