Biography

Rudi Wisaksana is Indonesian, graduated as medical doctor from Padjadjaran University in Bandung, Indonesia. He worked many years in Borneo and Papua, where he exposed to vast problems of infectious diseases mostly HIV, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. After came back to Bandung, he worked in  Hasan Sadikin Hospital, West Java; which he learned that different from Papua, in other parts of Indonesia, injecting drug users (IDUs) are important target group in the HIV epidemic.  He started his research project since 2007 for monitoring and treatment of HIV patients which focus on IDUs, and developed first HIV cohort in Indonesia which still continue until now. He received PhD degree from Radboud University Nijmegen, Netherlands, in 2013. Besides working as HIV and infectious Disease Specialist in Hasan Sadikin Hospital, he is leader for HIV working Group in Medical Faculty, Padjadjaran University. In national level he is also member of research working group in Indonesian National AIDS commission and HIV expert committee in Indonesian Ministry of Health. His task is to deliver comprehensive care for HIV-infected patients, and supervise HIV care in district hospitals in West Java and Papua, and to build care and research network among health professionals.
