Ryo Nakamura has been Ambassador, Assistant Minister/Director-General for Global Issues, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, since January 2025. After graduating with a Bachelor of Law from the University of Tokyo, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1992. He also obtained a Magister Legum degree from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany in 1994.
Ambassador Nakamura’s diplomatic career covers various fields ranging from political, legal affairs to regional affairs, including Director of Policy Planning Division (2011-2013), Director for Central and South Eastern Europe Division (2013-2015), Minister of the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia (2015-2018), Minister of the Embassy of Japan in Germany (2018-2021), Chief of Nagasaki Prefectural Police (2021-2023) and Director-General of Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department (2023-2025).
