Shinichi Oka, MD, PhD

Biography

Shinichi Oka has involved in HIV treatment and clinical researches since 1986. First, Dr. Oka applied PCR for HIV-DNA quantitation and for diagnosis of opportunistic infections such as PCP and TB. Dr. Oka has studied pathogenesis of HIV infection with molecular biologic, virologic, and immunologic techniques as well. HAART has introduced into HIV treatment in Japan since 1997. Then, Dr. Oka has much focused on clinical researches including clinical trials. Dr. Oka has collaborated with Asian countries to improve HIV treatment in Asia, especially in Vietnam. Dr. Oka had been Director of ACC since 2006, retired in March  2023, and is currently Emeritus Director of ACC.
