Stéphane Chevaliez, PharmD, PhD

Biography

Stéphane Chevaliez is Professor of Medicine at the University of Paris-Est Creteil. He is Deputy Director of the French National Reference Center for Viral Hepatitis B, C and delta, and a member of the department of Virology, and of INSERM Unit U955 at the Henri Mondor University hospital. He focuses on teaching, diagnosis and research in hepatitis viruses. He earned his Pharm.D and a doctorate in basic virology from the University of Paris 11 and the Pasteur Institute of Paris, France. In addition, he completed his training as a Post-Doc Fellow in Department of Medicine, Gastrointestinal Unit, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. Dr Chevaliez has published a number of original and review articles on the diagnosis and virological monitoring of chronic viral hepatitis, the mechanisms of action of ribavirin in chronic hepatitis C therapy and new drug developments. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying the success and failure (including viral resistance) of chronic hepatitis B and C therapies, but also in the development of alternative approaches to venous puncture for screening and diagnosis of viral hepatitis. He is a member of the Concerted Action 43 of the French National Agency for Research on AIDS and viral Hepatitis (ANRS).
