Takuya Kinami, DGD

Biography

Takuya Kinami is the Director of Community Center akta and a board member of the nonprofit organization akta, which operates in Shinjuku 2-chome—Tokyo’s most vibrant LGBTQ+ district. Since 2005, he has been actively engaged in HIV prevention efforts through nightlife-based outreach, including bars, clubs, and cruising spots, focusing on supporting gay and other men who have sex with men.

Appointed as Center Director in 2020, he has led innovative and community-centered initiatives to promote HIV awareness, testing, and access to care. He collaborates with local governments to create accessible health communication materials and has contributed both editorial content and illustrations to public health booklets.

In 2024, he served as a featured speaker at the 38th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for AIDS Research, where he presented on targeted HIV prevention strategies for MSM in urban Tokyo.

Kinami’s work bridges public health, graphic communication, and grassroots advocacy, ensuring that HIV education in Japan remains inclusive, culturally sensitive, and grounded in the lived experiences of the communities most affected. His ongoing contributions are vital to advancing stigma-free prevention and care efforts nationwide.
