A graduate of Monash University and trained in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases in Melbourne Australia, Dr. Adeeba Kamarulzaman established the Infectious Diseases Unit at the University of Malaya Medical Centre and the Centre of Excellence for Research on AIDS at the same institution.
She was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya from 2011-2019 and is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Yale University. In May 2023 Dr Kamarulzaman assumed the role of President and Pro Vice Chancellor of Monash University Malaysia. Dr. Kamarulzaman has been a committee member of several regional and international organizations including TREAT Asia, the International Society of Infectious Diseases, and was Co-Chair of the WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on HIV (2012-2016).

She is the Past President of the International AIDS Society (2020-2022), and is presently the Vice-Chair of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Science Council, and is a Commissioner of the Global Commission on Drug Policy.
