Michael was born in Amsterdam in 1959, and has lived in Barcelona, Spain, since 1986.
In 1993 he co-founded Projecte dels NOMS-Hispanosida, one of Spain’s most important HIV/AIDS community-based organizations.
In 2006 Barcelona Checkpoint was created, a community-based center of HIV and STI detection for MSM and development of community research, which model has been followed in many European countries.
The latest project in 2017 has been the implementation of Barcelona PrEP·Point, a community center for information, research, control and uptake of Pre-exposure prophylaxis.
