About this Program

The Facilitating Education on Stigma and Discrimination - Train the Trainer Program is designed to provide targeted education for health care providers on reducing stigma and discrimination experienced by the patient community in the Asian Region.

The objectives of this program are to highlight the issues of stigma and discrimination in different healthcare settings and from different perspectives; to identify stigmatizing attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that are commonly used by HCPs, and how these have an impact in PLWHIV; and to provide key communication and language strategies for the elimination of stigma and discrimination.

The content will be designed in collaboration with the program directors, the appointed members, and VE’s scientific managers. This will be an onsite face-to-face meeting with 20 key local experts who will join as local faculty members. This program will include a one-day program with activities including keynote lectures, roundtable discussion group discussion. Each activity will be delivered in local languages.

Who Should Attend?
General practitioners, nurses, dentists, clinicians and other relevant HCPs who are not involved in HIV care and prevention.
Meeting Objectives
This workshop aims to:

- Bridge the knowledge gaps between the various stakeholders such as healthcare providers, policy makers and community representatives and thereby catalyzing mutual understanding and respect;

- Set up a country-wide network of HCPs which will be able to spread and disseminate knowledge on tailored region-specific Stigma and Discrimination issues;

- Enable key local experts who joined as faculty members to train and assist colleagues and students in developing proper communication strategies, skills, and knowledge to accelerate the reduction of discriminatory language from healthcare settings.
Learning Objectives
After participating in this workshop, participants will be able to:

- Highlight the issues of stigma and discrimination in different healthcare settings and from different perspectives;

- Identify stigmatizing attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that are commonly used by HCPs, and how these have an impact in PLWHIV;

- Provide key communication and language strategies for the elimination of stigma and discrimination.

The Facilitating Education on Stigma and Discrimination – Train the Trainer Program (Taiwan Edition) will take place at Hotel COZZI Zhongshan Kaohsiung (No. 260, Zhongshan 2nd Road, Qianzhen District, Kaohsiung City 80660, Taiwan).

- High Speed Rail: from THSR Zuoying Station take Kaohsiung MRT Red Line towards Siaogang, get off at the Sanduo Shopping District Station (8 stops), exit the station from Exit 3., Hotel COZZI is on the left.

Badges
All participants are requested to wear the badge at all times during the conference to ensure admission to the meeting.
Certificate of Attendance
A Certificate of Attendance will be sent to participants after successfully completing the program and post-meeting survey.
Language
The official language of the workshop is Mandarin Chinese. Translation will not be provided.

Virology Education strongly advises participants to check the government website of Taiwan for the latest and most accurate information about the rules regarding travel.

Please be aware of measures such as testing requirements, vaccination requirements, whether your country of origin is mentioned on the Red List, etc. 

What if I get ill during the event?

Should an attendee become ill or exhibit COVID-19 symptoms at any time during the event, the attendee will safely withdraw from the event venue and immediately notify the event organizer with details of other attendees which have been in close contact at the event. By registering for the event, the attendee declares, acknowledges, and accepts that they will comply with all local government requirements should they become ill or exhibit COVID-19 symptoms during the event.

Liability Waiver

Virology Education cannot guarantee that its participants, volunteers, partners, or others in attendance will not become infected with COVID-19. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Virology Education accepts no liability for any illness, COVID-19 related or otherwise, that may subsequently be contracted after or during the event.
