The last time I met Charles, it was in Mexico, and he was laughing and joking as often. This will remain a very nice last picture to remember him alive. He was a nice and open-minded human being. He has been always inspiring for the youngest scientists and dedicated to HIV research for a long-time. This is his legacy and we will miss him a lot. Sincere condelences to his family.

I have met Dr. Charles Boucher at Hong Kong (two times) and Japan (two times) and found him very jubilant personality and cordial behaviour to every one. He was fully devoted to cause of innovative research towards eradication of infectious diseases especially HIV. I have seen him encouraging young scientists during their presentations in the conference. His contribution and dedication for improving quality of human health globally would always be cherished in times to come.

I'm coming to this news belatedly and am deeply saddened. It was a privilege to call Charles a friend as well as a colleague. Reading through the comments has taken me back to the wonderful years working alongside him in HIV, and later HCV drug resistance and pharmacology. We could always count on Charles to ask the most probing questions, in ways that educated and supported his colleagues, never diminishing them. He is greatly missed.

What a sad news. Charles and myself were fellow students at the University of Amsterdam late seventies/ early eighties. Play hard , work hard or the other way around. A joyful, fun loving, creative spirit with a wide range of interests. For a short while we played together in an indoor football team, not Charles greatest talent. We lost contact, Charles radiated to science and myself to international ( public) health. Much later we met again in Africa and Asia, while he branched out to to international health in the area of HIV. Having a beer, we quickly had the same eclectic range of discussions switching from international health, politics literature, music and football- life. A grounded person. A good man.
I wish his family and loved ones all the strength to cope with this terrible loss.

The next Virology Education meeting I attend will be very difficult to reconcile with the absence of Charles, he was the embodiment of many of my favorite meetings, because they facilitated awareness and insights into diverse clinical and scientific aspects of virology that are often ignored by the larger conferences. He was a beacon of inspiration to both young researchers and seasoned clinicians, and beyond the drive to create the platform to share expertise, he was also a truly wonderful man who will be sorely missed.

So many wonderful messages are a testament to Charles, a great researcher, teacher, family man and super company. I felt he deeply understood how "it takes a village" to make substantial progress and he galvanised many in that regard, so his legacy will not only be the many important things he achieved but also the achievements of those who were inspired by him. It is with great sadness that I learned the passing of Dr. Charles Boucher. I send my deepest condolences to Dr. Charles Boucher's family and colleagues at this difficult time. His legacy will stand as an example to all of us in our pursuit of progress in the HIV field.

I was introduced to Charles by my mentor Joep van Oosterhout at the INTEREST conference in Lilongwe, Malawi in 2017. After that he told me that he was very eager to see my poster presentation. When he came at the poster presentation, he gave me valuable insight that helped in polishing the abstract that was later presented at IAS in that year. A great mentor and researcher indeed. I met Charles at an INTEREST conference in Lilongwe, Malawi in 2017. He personally mentored us as up coming young academic researchers. His love for academic teaching and mentorship put my research interest at the next level. We will miss Dr Charles. Rest in Eternal Peace.

Please accept my sincere condolences to Charles Boucher, his wife, and his children. I remember Charles from the "AZT era" He taught me about resistance against antiretroviral drugs for the first time. This has made a big impact on me as a marketeer.
He was devoted to education and with his great support, we started the first HIV Masterclass in the Netherlands for young medical doctors. Pure science and no Pharma tricks.
Sad to say that we had to say goodbye to this wonderful, friendly, and creative man!

My sincere condolences to Dr Boucher's friends and family on behalf of the whole YLabs team. We have lost a giant in the field of HIV who made such a difference for the lives of those impacted, and all those who seek to do the same. We met at the HIV in Adolescent Workshop and his care and attention to children and young people living with HIV was a remarkable inspiration to us all. Thank you Dr Boucher.

Charles made important, relatively recent contributions in addition, to education in viral hepatitis. These contributions were greatly valued in endemic and non endemic regions. His legacy remains. It is nonetheless sad to know that his gifts, enthusiasm, sincerity and commitment have been prematurely lost. He was a force of nature and would have had much to offer to a burgeoning field. My condelences to his family, close colleagues and to the virology education team.

My condolences to Charles' family, friends and colleagues. I enjoyed our chats in the office, not only about science but also about social-cultural topics. I was fortunate to discuss my PhD thesis with him during my defense. Unfortunately I will never got to know and be able to discuss his remaining questions as opponent.
