i was awed when i met him in ACCRA , GHANA for INTEREST conference.
he made infectious diseases worth pursuing .

It is with great sadness I heard the news about Charles passing. He was an exceptional mind who I first encountered early in my career. I can say that his example taught me enormously about what qualities make a good scientist. I am very grateful for having knewn him, if ever too briefly. I present my depeest condoleances to Charles close ones and all his colleagues and friends. Hos spirit will live on in our memories.

Charles combined the restless intellect, professional passion, and cunning humor so rarely found together in one person. Reporting his work then working with Charles swept me up in the excitement so many of us felt in understanding, explaining, and eventually controlling a population-devastating infection.

It is indeed a very sad evening having to hear about Charles' death. I had the privilege of meeting and learning from him during the Virology Education Integrase Inhibitor meeting at AIDS 2018 in Amsterdam, and his knowledge and ease in teaching and discussing the latest science in antiretroviral therapy and resistance is something I apply in my clinical practice to date. To his family and the entire team at Virology Education and Academic Medical Education, I send my sincerest condolences and may Charles' soul rest in eternal peace.

Unbelievable and very difficult to accept. Charles, such a beautiful mind and such a witty and caring person with a big heart for Africa too! I first Met Charles in Spain, in 2015.Contact with him we immediately connected.
Subsequently I have had chance to be in touch with him on email, and again physically in 2017 in Paris. He touched me as a scientist, a mentor, and a role model Each time I wanted to submit an abstract for a workshop, the first thing I would check if Charles was part of organization. I met Dr. Boucher for the first time in the late 90s, I think that in a meeting in Barcelona, and we shared editorial work in different projects related to HIV drug resistance and the clinical interpretation of HIV genotypes. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and co-workers. Certainly, we and many others in the HIV/AIDS community will miss him.
