do not know him, but a sure presence in all the activities I follow for continuos learning. It always very hard to loose a dynamic and giving person.

It was always fun to meet Charles as you knew up front there would be some brainstorming ahead. In our first encounter at the AMC in 1991, I tried to explain him the virus competition assay that we developed. The seed did not land immediately, but once he got it, he advised all HIV colleagues to use it. I will remember his enthusiasm.

Very sad news. May our caring thoughts and heartfelt sympathy be with his family and friends.

This is terribly sad news.

Charles had a dynamic and unique energy to push the boundaries of science to provide better care for patients and to make sure this was driven by the best evidence. As an educator he developed specialist meetings and workshops that became critical to follow - and he pushed community - my route to these meetings - to interact and contribute at the same scientific levels - wanting us to contribute to the many, many debates.

I met Charles for the first time more than 20 years ago within the framework of European research project on HIV drug resistance testing. From the start I was impressed by his energy and drive for scientific innovations in HIV care. My condolences to his family, friend and close colleagues.

The news of Charlie’s passing is so sad. He was a wonderful educator and scientist, committed to improving care and therapy for HIV and viral hepatitis. He was a kind man and one always felt better after seeing him and talking with him at our medical and scientific meetings.

In this sorrowful time, I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to his family.

I had the pleasure and the honor of being a friend of Charles for over two decades and of working with him in V-E programs for the past decade. He is one of the very few real Mensch I ever met. He will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.
