Truly saddened with this news. Inspirational, human and with a good sense of crossing boundaries. Charles wanted to move forward, and turned science into practice. I enjoyed our informal conversations that always led to innovative plans with an endgoal in mind. Charles was inspired by linking scientific results to policies - that is where we found our connection. Charles will be missed, as a human being and an endless source of inspiration, passion and joy.
My thoughts are with his family and friends.
Warm regards,

Rust in vrede.

Dr Khin Pyone Kyi

It was so shocked to hear that Prof. Charles Boucher passed away! I can't believe that! It is a great sadness for me and all colleagues! He was an excellent and influencing virologist.

I am very fortunate to be a regular recipient of the Virology Education scholarships to attend workshops and forums on HIV and hepatitis / HIV co-infection! I always remember him with his curly hair falling down his forehead, thick white-rimmed glasses on his always thoughtful face! His presentations, questions, and discussion sessions were always interesting! I still remember sitting at the same table with him during the meeting with all scholarship recipients, his warm welcome speech made us so happy. Now he is gone forever, all colleagues and students can no longer see him in the upcoming workshops or meetings, but I know he is always in everyone's mind! His enthusiasm, passion, creativity and strength in science will forever be maintained and developed!

Rest in peace, Charles Boucher!
With my sincere condolences, respect and gratitude for him!

Despite the fact that we do not know Charles personally, we have been able to organize a large part of his trips. We mainly had contact through his secretary but very occasionally, in emergencies, with him. A special man will be missed in the ( medical ) world. The shock was therefore great when we heard the bad news of his illness and now also his death. We wish strength to his family and friends and his many colleagues.

These are very very sad news!!!!!!!. Charles was a very good friend of mine. We have shared many moments in life and he helped my Institution a lot since de very beginning. Without his initial support we couldn’t have tackle properly all the challenges that came out at the start of the irsicaixa. His contribution to the fight against AIDS has been tremendous and thanks to the creation of Virology Education he has provided the most useful knowledge to young physicians for managing HIV infected people correctly.
We all will miss him a lot at the irsicaixa Institution!!!!!!.
My best wishes, energy and love to his wife Ireen Benders and to all his kids. I am shocked!!!! It is too sad to me to realized that Charles passed away!!!!!.
